A community centered discussion with Muriel Fox and Debbie Millman* who will be joined by Sophia Schrager & Ilse Knecht from The Joyful Heart Foundation. This conversation will center around feminism and believing women. Discussion will include a special clip from the feature film "She's Beautiful When She's Angry" and *Debbie Millman will be addressing the audience via prerecorded video.

Feminist leader Muriel Fox co-founded the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the powerful NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund (now Legal Momentum), pivotal forces in the Second Wave Feminist Movement. An organizing lieutenant to Betty Friedan and head of NOW’s communications, Fox was central in creating both national NOW and its New York Chapter. Muriel Fox was also co-founder and president of The Women’s Forum and chair of the Veteran Feminists of America. As executive vice president of Carl Byoir & Associates, Muriel Fox became the world’s most preeminent woman in public relations. Fox graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from Barnard College in 1948. She has two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Debbie Millman, named “one of the most creative people in business” by Fast Company, “one of the most influential designers working today” by GDUSA, and a “Woman of Influence” by Success magazine, is also an author, educator, designer, and podcast pioneer. Debbie is the host of the Webby and Signal award-winning podcast Design Matters, one of the first and longest running podcasts in the world; Chair of the first-ever Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts, Editorial Director of PrintMag.com, and the author of eight books. Debbie is the recipient of a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award and a Lifetime Achievement award from AIGA, the Professional Association for Design. She was a Senior Events Manager at PURPLE, a global agency for luxury brands and innovation with offices in New York, London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Singapore for over 8 years. She worked with clients across the platforms of Lifestyle, Fashion and Beauty including: The Academy Museum of Motion Picture, Buccellati, Chloé, GUCCI, EDITION Hotels, Fashion Trust US, Kering, PUBLIC Hotels, Tory Burch, Vanity Fair, Vogue and more. Ilse Knecht, Director of Policy & Advocacy at Joyful Heart Foundation, has 25 years invested in victim advocacy and is a nationally recognized expert on the rape kit backlog. She leads Joyful Heart’s End The Backlog campaign, which is at the forefront of identifying untested rape kits across the country, appealing for laws and policies to improve criminal justice responses to sexual violence; and working with jurisdictions to assist them to develop and implement survivor-centered reforms. Ilse also manages the Foundations Image-Based Abuse Initiative, which raises awareness of the problem, changes laws and policies at the state and federal level, and pushes for rights and resources for survivors. Previously, Ilse spent 16 years at the National Center for Victims of Crime, where she created the DNA Resource Center and led the center’s efforts to reform policies and practices related to testing rape kits, stalking, and victims’ rights.
